Who We Are
SREIGS is a Golf and Social Society operating in Sussex, which meets once a month at selected Golf Clubs for golf and an evening meal.
It was founded over 60 years ago in 1962 and our motto Good Golf, Good Weather, Good Fellowship is as true today as it was back then. The weather we cannot control, but the Golf and the Fellowship, are really what it is all about.
We currently have about 40 members ranging from 20 to over 80 years of age. Youth on one part and experience on the other ensures that the awards are spread across the range. We are all of course golf players, with mixed abilities, but our aims are the same, to play golf to the best of our ability, to enjoy good company and hopefully good weather and generally forget the daily problems, at least for an afternoon, I think that we manage to achieve that quite well.
As the name suggests we all work or have worked within the electrical industry in some form or another, we have Electricians, Contract Managers, Owners, Wholesalers, Designers, and some builders or constructors.
Courses are selected by our Fixtures Secretary and once a month usually on the second Wednesday from April to November, we meet to play golf, enjoy good company, eat and generally have a pleasant time.
Each month we have two divisional winners and runners up, longest drive, nearest the pin and the infamous 2's competition, for which there is a hefty financial reward. On one of these events in the year we have our Captains Day when there are a few extra competitions to be contested.
Official SREIGS events in the year 2020 were cancelled due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. However the season in the year 2021 was completed with Nick Kerly as Captain and all other officers the same as on the year 2019. The Officers selected at the AGM in November 2021 for 2022 will again stand as for the year 2021, but our Captain for 2022 is now last years Vice Captain, Rick Jones.
